The number of high schools offering flight schools has increased since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, but there are still fewer than a dozen schools offering these programs.
The schools have been on the market for several years and, for the most part, the companies have not expanded or scaled back their programs.
But that could change, as several high schools and schools of education are looking to offer flight training in an effort to address the needs of a rapidly aging population and the growing need for flight schools for flight students.
Many of the schools are based in Oklahoma, but a few are in New Jersey and Texas, according to a statement from the FAA, which is in charge of regulating the schools.
“It is important that schools have flight schools to help address the increasing demand for flight school programs,” said FAA Administrator Robert G. Johnson in the statement.
The FAA also said that the schools would offer the flight training “in accordance with all applicable regulations.”
It was not immediately clear how many schools offer the training.
While flight schools are available in the United States, they can also be found in Canada, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the European Union.
In September, the FAA said it was reviewing whether to extend the authority of the FAA to require schools to provide flight training.
Under the FAA’s previous rule, schools that have been in operation for at least five years can operate without having to meet certain criteria.
“We have not identified the criteria that would cause schools to cease operations, or require them to cease operating, but we believe the most significant changes are to be made to the requirements of those schools,” the FAA wrote in the Sept. 15 letter to the school board.
Several other states, including Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, have proposed pilot program requirements that would allow the FAA and states to require flights schools to operate under the same conditions as other public schools.
According to the FAA notice, schools must comply with the same safety requirements as public schools, including operating under the direction of a certificated instructor.
There are about 1,000 flight schools in the U.S., according to the Flight School Alliance, an industry group.
About 3,500 flight schools operate in the country.
